About selling boats and helping Tonga rebuild after the cyclone

Shoot this year has gone quickly and now the holiday season is upon us so stay safe and stay in touch if we can help you in any way?
Thank you for all your amazing support this year, not only in our boat brokerage business, but also many of our very generous clients and friends have helped support our work we do in Fiji and this year Tonga. We aim to get results in whatever we do, and we’re not afraid to roll up our sleeves and get busy. This year had some interesting highs for me including working with Mike Vitali’s team on 3 of the Volvo “Round the World” race yachts. When Brunel arrived into Auckland she was sitting at 6th place and the crew thought they were off the pace a bit. We were able to help turn this around re-fairing and repairing their keel and bulb and they went on from there to win 4 out of 5 in-port races and win the next leg scoring double points.

Mike Vitali is a bit of a legend painting boats, from super yachts to our America’s Cup winning yachts, and he’s joining our Salthouse Team as our new broker in Auckland which is really exciting and he will also be able to give his expert advise on painting issues.

A second highlight for me was my first cruise to Tonga and the spectacular Va’vau island group, swimming with whales, and diving in crystal clear waters. We were also able to organise the rebuilding of a local school which was falling down around their ears. The project was completed in just one week and we were able to raise around $15,000 to re-roof the building and fix all the rotten timber and broken windows. Oh and the last three years you’ve helped us with the rebuilding of Koro Island in Fiji after Cyclone Winston with 190 knot winds flattened their houses killing 35 people. Well I can report back that thanks to your help Navaga Village has now completed 44 out of the 46 houses needed and the place looks amazing. The other 5 villages we are helping are well on the way too so thanks for supporting these projects.

What will 2019 bring?
It will be my 40th year in brokerage! Far out. And we are struggling more than usual to get really good listings. Labour has been doing a great job motivating people to get out of rental houses and instead buy a boat and have some fun and I’m picking that trend will continue for another 2 years, then there is the America’s Cup to look forward to. There could be some good buys in Europe next year with all the turmoil there, so I’m off in search of boats in May if you’re looking for something special.

Troy Woods has once again been fantastic at giving our clients great service and his vast experience as captain of Super Yachts and Maxi Yachts plus his roles as sales manager for Salthouse Marine Group and Formula boats has helped get some tricky sales together and keep things running smoothly in NZ. Astrid and Kerry have provided Troy and I with invaluable backup too with admin and it was a big year for Kerry and Mike Davies winning the Marauder National Champs on their yacht Flasher (with me bouncing around the foredeck as crew!)

May your Christmas and New Year offer rest, restoration and prosperity and remember we are here to serve you
Best wishes
