Salthouse Explorer 17.7m

Custom designed by Bob Salthouse with serious fishing, explorations, and cruising in mind and built by renowned craftsmen in triple skin Kauri at Brin Wilson Boatbuilders. This is a well built and very well-equipped passage-maker with plenty of redundancies and accommodation for 9 adults. When it comes to fulfilling those bucket list adventures this small ship will give you a great platform and safe travelling around the rugged New Zealand Coast and beyond and she’s fished the Three Kings and cruised Fjord land with ease.
When it comes to live aboard cruising size does matter and the big volume interior includes an owner’s stateroom forward with it’s own ensuite, finished in teak with beautiful exposed heart Kauri topsides. The guests have their own stateroom aft of the saloon with a queen sized double in a light spacious cabin.
The saloon has a helm station to starboard and galley aft with a dinette to port and access to the fly-bridge and also the side decks, plus a chart table and bar. The galley has a full-sized oven, plenty of bench space with twin sinks and is well positioned in the centre of the ship to feed the crew.
The large cockpit has an undercover el fresco dinette too and seating, bbq and great entertaining space with day beds either side. The cockpit makes the most of all of the hull length and without a platform everyone is fishing from within the safety of the cockpit coamings.
Having been built to MSA survey and under the SSM management she could go back into survey and be a great viewing platform for the America’s Cup.
The raised bulwarks and teak handrail allow access to the side decks and up to the bow, with external fly-bridge access from the cockpit or side decks.
The fly-bridge is a warm enclosed area with great visibility and practically is another lounge room, with internal and external access plus helm seat and well equipped helm station complete with sliding windows and good ventilation.
Room for all the toys when cruising long range is important and the aft deck area with its davit crane has tender storage, kayaks and room for all your gear.
The fly-bridge too offers extra berths, more lounging space, another dinette area and a bar fridge for refreshments.
This is an awesome viewing platform too to take in the vistas while staying warm and dry.
The lower helm station too is very practically laid out with a door to the side decks and full instrumentation and electronics.
